Job Description

OVERVIEW
Must have a minimum of 1 year’s experience as a qualified welder. Training and qualification testing will be complete within 6 months in the following:


SMAW-MA    3G                  LP, MP, ASME X-RAY OR OTHER APPLICABLE CODES
GMAW-SA    2G & 3G
FCAW-SA     3G


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Sets up welding equipment and prepares materials for welding.

  • Aligns, tacks and joins by welding, using processes and positions as required for this classification, to the assigned inspection requirements. 

  • Safe use of welding fixtures, positioners, jacks, cranes and material handling equipment.

  • Arc gouges, grinds, and buffs to clean and blend for quality weldments.

  • Repair weldments, changes tips, drive gears, conduit liners, welding gun assemblies and gas bottles.

  • Processes instructions from supervision, process sheets, routings, welding specification sheets, drawings and /or job layouts.

  • Follow standard work instructions and make suggestions for improvement.

  • Reads x-ray films to determine methods to repair defects.

  • Uses standard measuring instruments.

  • Completes appropriate records of welding information.

  • Other duties as assigned


COMPETENCIES:

  • Follow safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Basic Math skills required in the welding profession.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; and talk or hear.

  • Occasionally required to climb.

  • Lift and/ or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
  • High school education and technical school

  • 2 to 3 years of related experience

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • ASME experience a plus

  • Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts

Salary and Benefits
$26.39
Employees receive annual increases, $.75 shift differential and 6 month increases until top pay is reached.
