Oncology Social Worker

Job Description:

  • The Palliative Care Social Worker is involved in the care of a patient when the Palliative Care Team is consulted to provide care to a patient and his/her family.
  • As part of the multidisciplinary approach, provides care to patients and their families to meet their social and emotional needs as they impinge on their medical condition, treatment, recovery, and safe transition from one care environment to another.
  • Facilitates interaction between patient, family, and environment in order to promote quality of life.
  • Conducts individual, marital, group and family counseling sessions in both the inpatient setting (and outpatient setting as requested) - focusing on the following: improving the response of the environment to patient/family's situation; enhancing coping skills of patient, family and staff; providing diagnostic evaluation of psychosocial problems; defining treatment goals for alleviating defined problems; acknowledging and enhancing the dignity and self-worth of patient and family system; providing symptom relief; and evaluation of the patient/family grief response.

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work from a college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience. State certification required upon date of hire.
  • Three to Five years of health care or related social work experience
