About the Job

Hours: Four 10/hour shifts rotating weekends (2:00p-12:30a)

What Does It Take to be a Maintenance Tech I at Dawn Foods?

  • High school diploma or general education degree GED. 1-3 years of Maintenance experience preferred.
  • Basic Electrical, Mechanical, and Welding skills preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with fellow team members written and orally.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problem solving in variable situations.
  • Must be able to work well with others or independently.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Must be a self-starter.
  • Forklift certified or the ability to become certified.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Ability to work overtime with limited notice.
  • Must be pleasant, mature and have the ability to resolve service issues in a timely, organized and cost-efficient manner.
  • Must be able to handle many diversified tasks at one time and correctly prioritize conflicting, time sensitive tasks.
  • Must work weekends when required.

What You'll Do as a Maintenance Tech I

Participate in the maintenance and repair of plant, lab, and office equipment along with the building structure(s), parking lots and outside grounds.Ensure that the plant equipment is always in good and safe working condition, to prevent production down time.

  • Pro-active maintenance to include all equipment and machinery in the plant. Keep equipment and machinery in safe working condition.
  • Troubleshoot and repair of equipment.
  • Respond to all maintenance calls in a timely manner and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Work safely and maintain a safe work environment following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety practices.
  • Understand and follow OHSA regulations as it pertains to all aspects of maintenance (example: Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), ladder safety, etc)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in routine walkthroughs and inspections.
  • Demonstrate the "Dawn Values" of Team Dawn and supports the Circle of Excellence.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to grasp, move, or utilize objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to use sensory perception for quality measurement of products.
  • Physical duties involved in performing this position include but are not limited to lifting, pushing, pulling, walking, bending, standing, crouching, reaching overhead and climbing.
  • Team members must also be able to lift 50lbs. Position requires constant and continuous support of production and other departments.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Temperature fluctuates with the season - colder during the winter/warmer during the summer.
  • Working around heavy machinery - hearing protection required in production area.
