Overview
USU Blanding Campus is accepting applications for candidates to serve as counselors/tutors to participants in the 2024 College Launch Summer Program. This 4-week comprehensive programs offer assistance to first-generation and/or low-income students in academic subjects such as Math, science, STEM, and study skills. Counselors are required to live in the residence hall and will mentor and tutor participants on a daily basis. Room and board will be provided along with a salary of $3,500 for the four weeks. College Launch works with high school seniors.

Summer employment begins May 25, 2024 and continues through June 23, 2024.


Responsibilities
Assist College Launch (CL) participants in improving academic achievement either in a group or individually by meeting with them on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and work on study skills.
Must be able to tutor participants in Math, Science, STEM, Public Speaking, and Health courses.
Assist participants with financial aid applications and scholarships.
Monitor attendance and academic performance of participants on a daily basis.
Meet with CL Directors regularly to ascertain participants' progress and address any concerns.
Enforce the rules and regulations of the USU Blanding Campus and CL Program.
Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of social, cultural, and recreational activities.
Maintain a productive, positive attitude and confidentiality with other counselors, instructors, and CL staff.
Any other duties as assigned by the CL Director.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must have completed at least 24 credits of college work at the time of application.
  • Must possess the ability to handle high levels of stress.
  • Job offer is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check
  • Applicant cannot be enrolled in summer classes or other employment.
  • Must adhere to the USU travel and driving policies.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in conducting team building and other group activities.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Friendly, patient, and sensitive to a diverse population of students.
  • Bilingual in Navajo or Spanish.
  • Bachelor's degree in any Educational field.
  • Preference given to applicants from socio-economic backgrounds similar to CL participants.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must have a solid academic background in Math, Science, STEM, and/or Health.
  • Must have superb analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.
