Georgia Pacific is seeking a Process Control Engineer (Leader) to join our team at Lexington, KY Plant who can be technical subject matter expert for Process Control systems at our facility.

The desired candidate must be passionate about mentoring and demonstrate economic thinking & problem-solving skills. This position supports PLC systems in the Converting department and will be responsible for designing and implementing control improvements while working with others to maintain and troubleshoot the mill's control systems. We are looking for an individual who will assist with the development of process control systems that will allow Lexington to advance its current process systems to new levels of technology to support advanced manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to promote mill and company safety culture as a value while working on improving our processes in operational, mechanical, and electrical fields. This person will be leading a team of Control Engineers. If you are a self-starter and work well under minimal supervision in a team environment, this may be the right role for you!


What You Will Do

Be involved in the controls and automation design, implementation, and support of hardware and software systems for mill process equipment i.e. Rockwell Control Systems.


  • Lead a group of Process Control Engineers to improve the operation of the converting equipment
  • Drive a PBM culture within the organization
  • Work with the broader team to create a culture to empower people
  • Implement, design, and configure advanced process control strategies. Maintain functional design specifications for process control systems.
  • Support process operations by troubleshooting installed systems to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of these systems.
  • Act as a project resource in the installation of new instrumentation or control/automation systems.
  • Partner with corporate teams to implement new technologies that support advanced manufacturing.
  • Support of the mill safety program both personally and through observation.
  • Work closely with mill personnel to identify opportunities and solve problems.


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in Industrial Maintenance / Automation or manufacturing WITH experience as a supervisor with responsibility for direct reports.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring employees to improve their knowledge and skills, as well as their performance
  • PLC programming experience of 3+ years. (Rockwell platform preferred)
  • Experience with Allen Bradley FactoryTalk platform
  • Ability to troubleshoot and configure AB Drives.
  • Familiarity with reading basic electrical schematics and network diagrams.
  • Read, interpret, and develop control documentation and schematics.
  • Knowledge of standard MS Office suite


What Will Put You Ahead

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Rockwell FactoryTalk View SE and ME.
  • Leadership responsibility, developing capabilities, and creating accountability in an PBM culture
  • Microsoft server and SQL knowledge
  • Experience with troubleshooting and programming Fanuc industrial robots
  • Experience in project support - scope and estimate development, cost control, and schedule adherence.
  • Cyber Security
  • Experience mentoring and developing Junior Engineers
  • Information Technology experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering
