Title: Information Technology Senior Systems Administrator

Department: Information Technology

Reports to: Manager of Information Technology and Infrastructure

FLSA: Non-exempt

Job Grade: 12

Job Purpose: The Senior System Administrator is responsible for the effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems, including hardware, software, networking and voice. Maintain system security and troubleshoot issues. Make recommendations for future architectural design changes while maintaining awareness of the latest technology advancements.

Essential Job Results:

JOB SPECIFIC RESULTS

  1. Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all infrastructure resources. Reviews system and application logs, and verify completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  2. Installs and supports equipment including servers, network equipment, communication equipment, PCs and printers.
  3. Applies operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes.
  4. Performs network and server maintenance, security and software updates.
  5. Oversees the maintenance of end user account information.
  6. Researches and recommends IT hardware, software and solutions.
  7. Performs software installation and configuration.
  8. Maintains firewall and other systems to ensure security of company data and servers.
  9. Mentors others in supporting hardware and software issues.
  10. Maintains historical records by documenting system changes and revisions.
  11. Assist with coordination of the daily work activities of technical staff, serve as an expert resource and provide guidance in daily operations, project implementation and support activities.
  12. Provide training to new IT Infrastructure Team staff and conduct quality control checks of work.
  13. Serves as a backup for all daily operations in the IT department.
  14. Off hours work may be necessary at the discretion of the manager.

  1. Maintains member and employee confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential and sharing on a business-related as-needed basis only.
  2. Engages in problem resolution by clarifying the members and/or employees complaint; determining the cause of the problem; selecting and explaining the best solution to solve the problem; expediting correction or adjustment; following up to ensure resolution; and keeping the supervisor informed of problems and solutions.
  3. Complies with UKFCU policies and procedures by enforcing and adhering to internal UKFCU procedures and board-established policies.
  4. Complies with federal, state and local regulations and legal requirements by enforcing and adhering to requirements.
  5. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by maintaining an awareness of competitors rates and terms, industry trends and technology; attending staff meetings; identifying opportunities to attend seminars that enhance skills and maintain knowledge of new products that could assist in improving operational effectiveness; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; and participating in professional societies.
  6. Contributes to a team effort by accomplishing corporate and individual goals and other related results as needed.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Four to six years system administration experience, including diagnosis and maintenance of hardware, software, local area networks, web design and voice systems.
  • Associates degree with focus on IT or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with server virtualization using VMware, Active Directory and GPOs.
  • Knowledge of networking and latest version of Windows, as well as PC and general computer keyboarding experience.
  • Ability to communicate with others one-on-one, fielding questions.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions while dealing with a standardized set of concrete variables.
  • Ability to travel to branch locations to maintain computer systems.
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee will be required to work mostly indoors in a climate controlled office setting; infrequently however, the employee will be working in a Datacenter that is fan cooled to low temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate except when in the Datacenter or Server Rooms where the noise level can be high.

The mental characteristics necessary to competently perform this job include the occasional need to be persuasive, use good judgment; and, the continuous need to use auditory perception, memory, and reasoning ability.

This position allows for an optional hybrid work arrangement which includes a combination of both in-office and remote work arrangements. (Maximum of two days remote, three days in-office). To be eligible for the program, employees must complete a minimum of 6 months of continuous, regular employment, be in good standing, and submit a formal hybrid work application prior to being eligible for hybrid work, pending supervisor approval. Work schedules will be established by the employee's supervisor according to business needs. Working locations and schedules may be altered at management discretion.
