Overview Incumbents in the Assistant Flight Manager - rotorcraft position provide flight and ground instruction in accordance with FAA Regulations. Incumbents teach through classroom, simulator, and live flight instruction. This position will also provide support to the Chief Flight Instructor for the Professional Pilot - Rotorcraft program.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Flight Manager reports to the Department Head and/or a Chief Flight Instructor. This classification may supervise certified flight instructors, and adjunct instructors for course implementation.
Provides FAA Part 61/141 ground schools and coordinates ground training for FAA flight certificates for the rotorcraft emphasis.
Serves as safety officer for the rotor wing program.
Coordinates schedule to provide flight training for rotorcraft students.Recruits, supervises, and trains certified flight instructors/adjunct instructors for flight operations course implementation.
Ability to perform FAA Airman Certification Standards evaluations.
Coordinates with the Maintenance Chief and airport training (chief instructors) coordinators to ensure a consistent and coordinated program for all aviation students.
Provide course instruction for Aviation Technology students.
Coordinates an annual Assessment Program to ensure all requirements are completed.
Develops, constructs, and coordinates curricular changes for university approval.
Holds office hours to ensure students have an avenue for their concerns and counseling needs.
Coordinates with University, College, and Department administration, the Federal Aviation Administration, the University Veterans Affairs Office and others representing the program to present progress and update reports.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with three years' aviation industry experience
Commercial Certificate with Instrument Rating or Military equivalent
Aviation teaching experience and knowledge of curriculum subjects
Excellent computer skills, including the use of a Learning Management System (USU utilizes Canvas).
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree in a related aviation field with three years' industry experience
Bachelors Degree in a related aviation field with fifteen years industry experience
Certified Flight Instructor and CFII Certificates or military equivalent
Post-secondary teaching experience as a primary instructor
Airline Transport Pilot License or Military equivalent
Airport Management, FAA Dispatch Certification, or related experience
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of flight instruction instrumentation and equipment.
Knowledge of instructor certification.
Ability to Supervise.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to instruct students and tutor as necessary.
Ability to operate computers and associated flight software.
Ability to think analytically.
Ability to perform under stressful situations.
Ability to reason logically and methodically.
Ability to pay attention to detail.
